Our Christian school started operation in 1884 and is founded upon the tradition of our church body's 150 year history of private Christian parochial schools. The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod operates the largest Protestant private Christian school system in the nation. The system includes 1,400 Preschools, 1,036 Elementary Schools, 99 High Schools, 10 Colleges and 2 Seminaries offering the finest in Christian education. Below you will see a brief overview of Immanuel's rich history.

1884 - Immanuel Lutheran School was started. Classes were taught in the balcony of the church by Pastor F. Leyhe.

1886 - A School building was constructed at the back of the church.

1889 - A "lady" teacher was hired to help Pastor Leyhe with the 65 children enrolled in the school.

1890 - Mr. F. Schaefer became the first called teacher.

1909 - School classes were moved to the church basement to accommodate more students.

1920 - The current school property at 11th and Oak was purchased. As the building was too small for our growing school, two larger classrooms, an office, and a gym in the basement were added.

1949 - To accommodate increased school enrollment, as well as to welcome school age children of the newly formed St. Luke's congregation, an additional four new classrooms were added.

1963 - Ground breaking for a new school building began. Expansion for the day school included the addition of 5 classrooms, a new office, cafeteria, the parish hall, and a new gym/roller rink.

1978 - Voters decided to add a Kindergarten to the Christian Day School. It was started by Mrs. Schultz, who retired in 2004.

1990 - Another addition to the school building was added.

2009 - Celebrated our 125th anniversary.
