My dear brothers and sisters in Christ!

Freedom!!! Here in the United States we love to shout that from roof tops and especially during this time of year as we celebrate our nation’s independence. But we can join with Christians across the world daily and celebrate a much greater freedom than what we celebrate on the 4th of July. We have freedom from our sins on account of our Lord Jesus Christ. For as Paul writes to the church in Galatia, “For freedom Christ has set us free…”

Read that again, for the purpose of freedom, Christ has set us free. For what purpose? What is Paul getting out with this statement? As we read on in the chapter we hear him warn the church not to return to the yoke of slavery to sin in which we once lived. But rather to embrace our new-found freedom we have in Christ and use it for accomplishing His purposes. In verse 13 he writes this, “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.”

The freedom for which we have been set free is to serve others. When we were enslaved to sin, the law demanded that we account for our sin through sacrifice, alms and gift giving. It was all self-serving. With the freedom we have in Christ, we get to serve and love others, for our freedom from sin is secured in Christ Jesus. That my brothers and sisters in Christ is worth celebrating.

This month at Immanuel, we will be celebrating many things. We are celebrating our Vicar Joseph Eggerman, his family and the ministry he has done this past year. We will send him off with our blessing and with an eager anticipation of hearing where he will be serving as pastor in about a year from now. We will also be celebrating the installation of our new Associate Pastor Bryce Clayton who will be installed on July 20th.

Lastly, we are celebrating the completion of our new Mission Center which we will begin to worship in next month. This mission center will be used to help serve those in our community and share the love of Jesus to those all around us. This is the purpose we have been set free. That through the love of Christ that has been shared with us, to serve others. That’s why we exist, to Share the Love of Jesus, Grow in Faith and Serve Community.

Have a blessed July!
