Mary Martin   -

Have you ever caught yourself grumbling about a task you had to do? Have you been in a situation where you got into an argument about something that needed to be done? If you are like me, the answer is yes. When I complain, my attitude and effort are not where they should be. I am not giving 100% attitude and 100% effort in the right areas. That is our catchphrase for the month and uses the Bible verse the students are learning this month, Colossians 3:23, which says, “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not human masters.” There are times when the work we do is for others or for ourselves, and we leave God out. When we do this, our attitude and effort will likely not be at 100%.

If you have ever played on a sports team or worked with a group to accomplish a task, your success and outcomes are linked to your attitude and effort, and how they can support or detract from the team. During my experiences as a principal, I have seen students with the wrong attitude turn it around and come out stronger and better. In our lives, there will be things that do not go our way. What is God trying to show us, and how can He can make a difference in our lives? As the phrase goes, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. To improve the outcome and make great lemonade, some added a sweetener to cut the sour taste, enhancing the flavor. In our lives, the people around us can help us through the challenges we face, and the things we do can help us improve our outcomes. Simple things like caring for our bodies, being kind to ourselves, not comparing ourselves to others, and surrounding ourselves with positive people. Jesus is the added sweetener that makes our lives better, and when we put 100% attitude and 100% effort towards serving God. What great things is God calling you to do in 2026? Whatever that may be, go and give it your all.

In Christ,
Brian J. Betts-Principal
