A book I recently read, Atomic Habits by James Clear, emphasizes the power of small changes.
When we consistently make small adjustments, they grow into lasting habits and eventually
shape our daily routines. This idea connects well with our theme for the month: “practice makes
perfect.”
Our focus Bible verse comes from the Epistle to the Philippians 4:8 – “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable— if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.”
This verse reminds us that practicing healthy habits helps define who we are. Often, a good predictor of future behavior is what we have done in the past. People are creatures of habit — some habits serve us well, while others can be improved. Parents and teachers play an important role in guiding children toward healthy habits, such as brushing teeth twice a day, washing hands, staying active, and reading. You can probably think of even more examples, including habits in your own life that shape who you are.
As you reflect on your own habits, consider ways you can grow stronger and become better. A
healthy mindset is essential for meaningful change. Give yourself grace — you will make mistakes, and that is part of learning. Have courage and believe in yourself, knowing that God has given each of us unique gifts.
The more we practice something new and turn it into a routine, the more it improves our lives.
This month, take time to reflect on one area you could improve — whether it’s making healthier
choices, being on time, limiting screen time, encouraging others, or spending time in God’s Word each day.
God has blessed your life in many ways. How can you develop habits that reflect Jesus to those
around you? Not only can this impact others in their faith journey, but it can also deepen your
own walk with Him. The more we practice, the more these habits become part of who we are.
May God bless your efforts as you grow, strengthen your habits, share the love of Jesus, grow in
faith, and serve community.
