This week the Immanuel LERT team deployed to the Fox Valley area in support of the cleanup efforts taking place there. They lived up to their group name – Lutheran Early Response Team – when they responded by arriving on site early after the devastating tornado that affected the area. The team began by helping clean up some downed limbs and debris around Peace Lutheran Church in Neenah before heading into the community to help people remove trees and debris from their property. The team got to meet some great people and hear their stories, as well.

Immanuel is grateful for our team of volunteers who served community in their time of need. We appreciate the work of Brad Ahles of Rapids Earthworks and his expertise with cutting and removing trees. A special thanks goes out to Premier Rental of Wisconsin Rapids for equipping the team with an incredible piece of machinery that did a whole lot of good.

Here are some things you might do to continue to assist the Fox Valley area, as well as maintaining preparedness for future disaster response:

  1. Pray: All of us have the ability to pray for those impacted by disasters and those working to respond!
  2. Volunteer to serve with Immanuel’s LERT Team: If you could travel to disaster sites or deploy to disasters and needs right here in our community, consider joining Immanuel’s LERT Team. See us at the Red Wall or use the link below.
  3. Train: To deploy to disaster sites, volunteers need to take safety training. This may be basic safety training, or it may be chainsaw safety training. Check with Pastor Tim, Brian Hanson, and our Immanuel LERT Team for future training.
  4. Donate: Our district offered to be a clearinghouse for disaster relief donations. They asked that those wishing to make a monetary donation to please send money marked “Disaster Response” to: North Wisconsin District, 3103 Seymour Lane, Wausau, WI 54401. You may also use the district’s online donation portal linked below.

The death of a spouse or partner can leave you wondering how to move forward while carrying such a significant loss. Ann Schlice has worked to connect those at Immanuel who have recently experienced a loss with resources. She has asked us to share this upcoming event which will take place at Christian Life Fellowship in Port Edwards.

Join them for a morning of hope, support, and practical guidance as we introduce two proven grief support programs: Grief Share and Grief Recovery. This is a free interactive class.

Love INC’s affiliated thrift store, Love It Again, recently suffered significant damage after a volunteer’s truck unexpectedly rolled into the front of their building. No one was injured, and they were thankful for God’s protection. The store will likely be closed for two or three months while repairs are completed. (They are still accepting donations Wednesday through Friday, 10am to 2pm in the back of the building.

While Love It Again is under construction, they are planning a fun event at the Love INC site to help raise funds. They describe their Jewelry Sale event as follows: “We’re planning a SUPER fund event hosted at the Love INC of South Wood County building! Gather your girlfriends and plan to attend an afternoon of sparkle, glitz, and glamour!”

Love INC exists so that every day people can come to them with needs they cannot meet on their own. Through the local churches like Immanuel, Love INC helps connect those needs with people who can respond with prayer, encouragement, practical help, and hope in Christ.
